Hi there.
Awgh, mein hungover and sunburnt head makes me want to just lie on the floor with my laptop, eat blackberries and listen to songs about Minecraft. While doing so, I'm having a look at my files.
This first one is part of something I want to post properly at one point. The rest is a bunch of quick studies, the few things I managed to scan before my scanner/printer-thing died a very premature death (I've only had it for a few months!), and warmup doodlings.

I had to part with my lovely centuries-old Canon scanner because there's no functional drivers for Win7 : ( Instead I used the one that's part of my new printer.... I really hope the thing at least prints well because it definately doesn't scan well, ffff.

Anyways, here's some unsorted sketchings!

When I use markers I usually end up finding the back of the paper more interesting than the actual drawing:

S'more random stuff. Whenever I wanna practice anatomy I tend to draw mostly arms and shoulders. I love arms and shoulders.

I never use a mouse on this computer, but I just had to go get one because I'm unable to properly click/select anything in this blogger-editor while using my graphic tablet. I'm only getting random unintended double-clicks and I can't control what I'm selecting...
I find this most peculiar. Might be ghosts.

Sunday was a very long day, I think it left me sorta confused about time and space. I got up at about 6am, worked on commissions until we went to a bar to get into the right mood for the soccer game, then we watched said game, celebrated some more, went home, played some Left 4 Dead, slept for about 42 minutes on my keyboard, got back up and worked on commissions until I went to the train station and took a train 2 hours too early because I thought it was friday for some odd reason. Sadface.
While sitting in a starbucks waiting, I put together an update. It's kinda only fanart and semi-old things:

And something very old... for a short time last year, I was somewhere almost close to being a Persona 4 fan. ALMOST. We never beat that last dungeon, though.

Quick head-sculpt of the TF2-Announcer/Administrator, took about one or two hours. I will finish/edit and paint this as soon as I get some computer troubles out of the way. Until then, please excuse my fail.

Speaking of Tf2, the Mac-update is out since yesterday.
Is that a new shotgun I see there in the video? Is that Jobbs vs. Hale coming up in the comic? A training-mode? New Interface? Freebies? Oh dear, commence grabby hands.

But.... just a few hours after the release I've already seen it happening on your friendly neighborhood server. The name-calling, the shunning. A single first specimen of an earbud wearing Scout, alone in the dark, not wanted by anybody.
"Kill it! Kill it with fire! Oh dear lord he's on my team! /windows-us0r bid farewell, cruel world" I heard them say on the mic.
That Scout will find earbud wearing buddies, and he will seek revenge.

What have you done, Valve. It's not about RED and BLU anymore.

Being serious for a moment, I've been playing on windows, obviously, but I'm gonna be logging on via macbook now and then, as well, and I'm gonna take a pass on caring about who's using which system.
I guess this 'war' could be fun, but I have a feeling that it's gonna turn into a sh*tfest.

Shalala and I went to see an exhibition at Phoenix Halle nearby, and afterwards we walked over to the abandoned blast furnace, even though it started to rain like crazy.
At first I was sad because I thought I wouldn't be able to take any nice photos and that my camera wouldn't survive it, but the rain and the returning sunlight afterwards created a quite beautiful atmosphere. Even though I ruined my almost completely white outfit by jumping through puddles of muddy water, I was very happy about the weather at the end of the day.

It's 3am, I'm too nervous to sleep, so I thought why not update this blog. I changed the layout at some point during lunchbreak today and now that I look at it many hours later I must say I have come to still not like it.

Anyways! At some point last week this conversation happened:

More random practice things...still trying to get better at sketching, so when I had scanned these, I told myself "leave it alone, don'tcolordon'tcolordon'tAHDAMN".

Based on sketches by my friend Monika... I just have to place her on my couch and give her a pencil and 10 minutes and she fills sheets of paper with wondrous inspirations:

Some animals, I'm drawing a million 30-sec doodles here 'n there. I have little to no experience drawing animals so I'm hoping that scribbling those 'alien' forms will help me learn recognizing shapes more easily. These were my very first, and my ballpoint-pen was dying. More to come when I feel like scanning again.

Messin' around... Idk, stuff like this happens when I have to wait for something, even if it's just a few minutes.

I've been playing some Rockband2 with my friends lately, and these are the characters we created for it...more or less. Not to be taken seriously. You should see Willy's hobo-drumkit made of cardboard with unicorn-stickers all over it:

It's been a while since the last post, haven't been drawing much. I shall refrain from explaining as to why that is via mile-long rant about life's hardships and my struggle not to get distracted by every Shiny that appears at the side of the road.

Anyways, last weekend I remembered that I like drawing, too, so I put on some music and movies and did some somethings.
My usual way of drawing is doing a 'sketch' that's nothing more than a mess of ... I don't even wanna call it lines, to roughly determine where what is gonna be and then I paint over everything. This lead to me never really developing any feel for lines, so I decided to scribble a bit on real paper zomg just to observe what happens.

More practice, trying to find a convenient way to position cameras and characters and whatnot in a scene, fast & simple.
At first I tried to do this digitally, also to test some brushes and sort them, because I have about ten million and that's not helpful.
Five to ten minutes each:
That went rather not amazing at all. I guess the problem is that the computer allows me to change dimensions and values subsequently, which is distracting and makes me slow.
Then I remembered that I had once bought a few sketchbooks, and one of them is only as big as the palm of my hand and has a convenient widescreen-format.
That went a lot faster and twenty times as comfortable as scribbling digitally.
Two to five minutes each:
Reference of choice were random dvds I picked from my shelf ( Documentaries, and a bit of Leon the Professional )
Now I only need to do about 800 more of those and look into some actual theory on this stuff, and I'll have either learned a ton of things by then, or died of a solvent poisoning.

And a few things I did for perspective practice and to test some brushes.
References: places in my hometown(or somewhere near, cities are like on top of eachother close'n cuddly around here) and pl_waste, a very nice custom Team Fortress 2 map

Advice corner:
-Y'know you're doing something wrong when you klick 'save as' and type sdfhsdjfhdjfh.psd and it tells you the file already exists.
-Don't listen to the Unbirthday song for an hour straight.
-Don't use a hair dryer on a wig. Ever.

S'more in color, drawn while watching dvd... "The Good, The Bad, The Weird" is a korean western movie I bought in 2008, it's got no subtitles and since I'm not that fluent in korean I read the story on wikipedia and just enjoyed the very well-done actionscenes.

And my first try using Painter since 2007 or something. This is terribly difficult for me, I've been drawing in Photoshop for so long that I expect Painter to work in a similar way, but it doesn't. I guess I could set it up to make the brushes work like in photoshop, but that wouldn't make a lot of sense.

In the future, I should just spend a tiny bit of time cleaning up my sketches so I wouldn't end up with wonky anatomy all the time after coloring.

Practice-doodle-things, more or less based on reference photos I took on my many journeys through abandoned industrial areas... I'm gonna need a whole lot more practice until I'll be able to do half decent speedpaintings. But here are some first tries :' /

I recorded the drawing process, so that I can re-watch it and see where I'm going wrong, but maybe someone else might find this interesting, too.

And a bunch of others, these are really crappy, must keep an eye on colors to keep them from getting so muddy... should draw in b/w first, too. Values are all messed up.

There's so much random crap on my harddrives, I don't know where to start. Anyways, something recent. It's another Yokai, called Yuki Onna:

Yokai

Ohaguro-bettari is a type of Yokai in japanese folklore. She tricks men into believing she was a beautiful young woman, dressing in fine clothing and turning her featureless face away until they approach her:

A scene from Gantz, a series which features quite a few Yokai. Also walking talking statues and things that look like they escaped from Halflife. Man I love that comic.
These two appeared only for half a chapter but they seemed fun to hang out with. Until they decided humans are disgusting and put an end to their short-lived friendship to the suit-guys. ( I won't use the v-word):

And something else in progress. Kappa are river-imps who drag the unsuspecting into the water. You can trick them by bowing to them, making them spill the water in the bowl-shaped depression in their heads and losing all their power when they return the bow.
Their favourite food are cucumbers and human entrails.
Just a 20-minute sketch, will finish it as soon as I feel like it:

It's been ages since the last time I updated my old blog which was powered by wordpress on my own webspace. I still don't know if I liked being a lonely outsider living in the shadows of the internet better or not, but in any case, time for something new. So I thought I'd just leave it at that and venture forth into the unknown realm of blog-communities.
I shall start posting stuff and try to make the layout a little more appealing as soon as I figure out how things work here.
